“Spirit of Shadow Lake Lodge” photo contest winners

At the end of 2023, we asked you to share your favourite photos for our first-ever photo contest, and we’re so excited to announce the winners!

We received over 100 entries, and it was a difficult process to choose the winners. When picking the photos, we considered how well the image would encompass someone’s time at Shadow Lake Lodge, the visual beauty, the technical merits of the photo, and the overall emotional impact. Though it was a challenge to pick a few winners, it was enjoyable to go through all the entries - we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to share their photos with us!

The winners will receive:

  1. $400 credit towards a stay at Shadow Lake Lodge.

  2. A Shadow Lake Lodge local supplier prize pack. Valued at $150.

  3. A Shadow Lake Lodge branded beanie, Buff, and t-shirt. Valued at $120.

Without further ado, the winners are…

First place

Chuck O'Callaghan

“It was a spectacular blue sky day, just after a good dump of fresh snow. I went to the lake itself, as a day trip up Redearth Creek.”

Sweet winter stillness! The iconic Mt. Bell is nicely framed with the dark treeline, and we have some interesting foreground with pillows of snow in the creek. This gorgeous photograph captures how peaceful it can be at Shadow Lake Lodge in the winter. Nice one Chuck!

Second place

Barry Philippson

“We spent three wonderful nights at Shadow Lake Lodge and one of our favourite hikes was on the Waterfalls/Amphitheatre Trail.  It was a beautiful day and we did not meet a soul on the trail.  We spent quite a bit of time at the falls which we thoroughly enjoyed since it was so peaceful. I am really glad I brought my tripod.”

We travel to the backcountry to reconnect with ourselves and the environment, and we think Barry’s photo captures that in spades. The photo is well-framed, boasts summer colours, and the more prolonged exposure helps us feel the flow of the river and its zen. Thanks for sharing Barry!

Third place

Steven Robinson

“I was at the lodge last June to celebrate my upcoming eightieth birthday with my children, their spouses, and my grandchildren. This photo was taken the early morning when there was still a hint of haze between the mountains and me, standing on the porch of my cabin. Very different from the day before when there was light June snow.”

Steven’s photo makes us feel like we’re about to wake up to a beautiful day in the mountains. The treeline is in focus, and the mist is slowly burning off here to show the majestic mountains. There’s something nice to the modesty in mountain images. Great capture Steven!

Honourable mentions

We received so many beautiful entries, so it would be a shame not to feature a few more of them - enjoy!
