  • Prices include your private cabin, a mattress, showers, common lounge spaces and games/books. Merchandise, wine/beer, and tea can be purchased subject to cost. All you need is warm clothes, linens/sleeping bag, your food for your stay and a mode of travel!

  • Winter Season: January to April

  • No, everyone is welcome at the ACC’s huts!

    While Shadow Lake Lodge does not offer discounts or early access to ACC Members, there are other great perks to joining the community. Find out more on our ACC Membership page.

  • Yes, the luxury of Shadow Lake Lodge is your own private cabin! Pick between a family cabin, or a cozy king cabin for a basecamp with your sweetheart. Our lodge has communal cooking quarters and a common lounge to nestle in with a fireplace.

  • Each cabin has a respective guest capacity. Check out our booking page for more information.

    If you’re looking to book exclusively at the lodge, the maximum number of guests is 35.

  • Yes, Parks Canada does allow biking up until the 10.5km mark in the summer. At the Pharoah creek junction, lock up your bike on the ground-rack provided, and continue the last 25 minutes by foot! Winter biking is allowed from December 1 - March 15 all the way to the lodge.

  • Food and a sleeping bag are the only essentials you will need to bring, however, we also recommend you bring footwear for inside the hut, a headlamp/flashlight, lighter or matches and paper for starting the fire (for huts with wood stoves). Our lodge has mattresses, pillows (You will need to bring a pillow case), pots and pans, cutlery, dishes, and stove & oven for cooking. Check our individual hut pages for more info on each ACC facility and be sure to confirm at the time of your booking.

  • Our lodge is not in cellular range, so it is highly recommended that you carry an emergency communication device with you when you visit Shadow Lake Lodge. Bring your avalanche gear!

  • As we operate over 30 huts across multiple parks in Alberta and BC, we cannot provide up-to-date information about all the trails to our huts. You can find trail reports and conditions on the Parks Canada, BC Parks, and Alberta Parks websites.

  • Yes. Drinking water at Shadow Lake Lodge originates from an underground spring and is treated and filtered to standards set by Alberta Health Services.

  • Custodians and ambassadors are there to answer questions, check you in, and monitor the property for guests. They are not responsible for cleaning up after guests. Our cabins are user-maintained, and we ask all users to clean up after themselves and follow usual ACC hut etiquette guidelines.

    Please have a copy of your booking confirmation with you to present to a custodian for proof of your reservation.

  • There is a shower for guest use in our washhouse.  Guests must bring their own towels. Environmentally friendly soap and shampoo are provided!

  • No. Provided we are given enough notice, some of our cabins can be set-up with a pack-n-play. Let us know at the time of your reservation what you’re looking for. The cabin you reserve must allow for your total occupancy.

  • Details will be made available in your cabin. Please clean and disinfect all surfaces during your stay and prior to your departure to help us keep our lodge in excellent condition. If you notice any maintenance issues or if something is missing, please report it to our reservations team after you return home.

    Cleaning supplies will be available in our common lounges for guest use.

  • Shadow Lake lodge is a licensed facility offering beer and wine. Forgot your toque? Not to worry - We also have a section of merchandise that can be purchased from our custodian. We accept payment by credit card or cash.

  • Yes, when you enter Banff National Park, you are required to purchase a Parks Canada pass for the duration of your stay. This should be displayed in your vehicle, however you do not need a backcountry camping pass - this is already included in your reservation. Vehicles can be left at the Redearth Creek parking lot, or any other main access points to the lodge so long as it does not conflict with other facilty parking regulations.

    Purchase your Parks Pass online or at the nearest Visitors Centre.

  • Shadow Lake Lodge requires full payment upon booking. Reservations and their respective dates are non-transferrable. Changes to bookings are treated the same as a cancellation and follow the same terms and conditions. A refund of 50% can be made if the reservation is cancelled 15 days prior to the guest arrival date. Any cancellations within this window will not be refunded. All refunds made to credit cards will be subject to a 2.4% credit card processing fee. PLEASE READ THE FULL BOOKING/CANCELLATION POLICIES HERE.

    The ACC does not refund or discount any booking(s) due to weather, hazardous conditions, wildlife, wildfire, delay, early departure, imposed closures or restrictions, road conditions, road closure, illness, trail closure or for any other reason(s) beyond our control.  We strongly recommend getting travel insurance for peace of mind.

  • Yes! Arnica/Twin Lakes trail is a scenic 14km hike via Gibbons pass, and a fun way to book-end your trip. This route can be accessed via Vista Lake Viewpoint, approximately 8.2km south of Castle Junction on Highway 93 South. There is considerably more elevation, but it is sure to impress.   • You bet! We have a small selection of games and books at our lodge. Treat these complimentary amenities as if they were your own. Sanitizer and cleaning supplies will be made available in the common lounge. Feel free to pack in your own family games if you’re feeling extra fun!

  • We are fortunate in the Canadian Rockies and at Shadow Lake Lodge to share this space with many types of wildlife! While human-wildlife conflicts are rare, the potential does exist. For some helpful resources on how to be prepared in the backcountry, please check out the Parks Canada Bear Safety page.

  • No, sorry. In consideration of shared common spaces, dogs are not permitted at any of our ACC facilities including Shadow Lake Lodge. Parks Canada allows (on-leash) dogs on many trails, however, and you can read more about where you can take your dog for a hike in Banff here.

  • Yes, the lodge can be booked exclusively depending on time of year and can fit up to 35 guests. For information on exclusive bookings please contact info@shadowlakelodge.com

  • Yes! We have plenty of yoga mats that you can take to your room or set up in the CPR cabin.
