Photo Essay: A day with the Shadow Lake Lodge team

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be at Shadow Lake Lodge for a day with our team, look no further!

In this photo essay we provide an inside peek at closing weekend for the 2021/22 winter season. It was a first for us here at Shadow Lake Lodge and we couldn’t have been more happy to pull it off.

If you’d like to join our awesome team and enjoy some backcountry living, you can apply for summer 2022 below!

Cheers! To our first winter in operation!

Arrival

After a 14km trek in along the Redearth Trail, you’ll arrive at our cabins. Check-in time is at 2:30pm and we’ll be there and ready with post-hike bevvies and snacks!

Come by xc or backcountry skis, fat bike or snowshoe - whatever you fancy.

Beer tastes better after a good hike, you can trust us on that one.

Our awesome staff will be at the main cabin to greet you and provide a run-down on the facility.

Hungry after your trip in? We’ve definitely got you covered.

You can continue to explore the area or have a rest in our main cabins and enjoy some conversation, the choice is yours!

Lodging and cabins

Our cabins provide you with the privacy of being tucked away in the woods, while still providing a panoramic view of the surrounding vistas. Enjoy your own personal cabin, along with a community lounge area at the CPR cabin and dining in our main lodge. We also have a solar-powered washroom with heated showers… and mirrors!

What a beauty! All our pretty cabins lined up :).

Your personal cabins provide a private space to get away from everything and enjoy time by yourself, and your loved ones!

Our washroom is completely solar-powered, providing you with hot showers after a long day out.

There’s a few maintenance sheds around and staff accommodation as well!

All the private cabins. They vary depending on your party-size and how you’d like your experience to be - there’s many different sleeping configurations to choose from.

The main CPR lounge cabin lights are powered by propane and provide a very cozy and rustic feeling.

If you’d like to see what the CPR looked like past, you can! It’s come quite the ways.

If you feel like having a chill moment, we have plenty of reading material in the CPR cabin for you to sink into.

No lounge cabin is complete without a fireplace ;).

Sign our log book while you’re at the CPR cabin!

Dinner time!

We take a lot of pride in your dining experience, so it’s a time you can really look forward to!

Our lead chef spends time prepping the meals up to one day ahead of time to make sure everything’s perfect.

We’ve got all the silverware!

A prepped table is a nice table to sit down to.

Game plan! Making sure we have everyone’s meal preferences and seating is right.

When do you know it’s dinner time? You’ll hear it.

No nice dinner’s complete without candles.

Chef MA getting ready to send out the appetizers.

Sweet buns? Yes, please!

We have a wide range of wines available to you at the lodge to pick from.

Closing out the day

A fun day outside comes to a close at some point and it’s time to enjoy some rest! After dinner, the team’s still got a bit of work to do cleaning and prepping for the day ahead.

The nights are dark and the skies are clear here at Shadow Lake Lodge. If you’re into astro-photography, you won’t have to worry about light pollution here!

Night owls, feel free to stay up and enjoy some quiet time in the CPR.

It’s hard to beat an evening by the fireplace.

Cleaning up and prepping for the next day’s schedule!

Good morning sunshine

Well, sometimes the sun isn’t always out, but the views are always spectacular off Mount Bell.

Coffee and tea for the adults, hot cocoa for the kids - yum!

No reception? No problem, we’ve got your daily forecasts.

We’ve got your lunches prepped for the day, made specifically for you :).

Dinner prep starts in the morning!

While most of our staff hike/ski into the lodge, we do have bigger loads that require a little mechanic assistance.

The incinerator!

Moss moustaches ;)

No matter the weather, you’ll always have great views and places to hike and explore here at Shadow Lake Lodge.

Your 2021/22 winter team

This first winter season would not be possible without the hard work of the Shadow Lake Lodge team! While they weren’t all present when our photographer came to visit, here’s a few of the pretty faces that helped to make things happen.
